Kenny Chesney shared the story behind a hilarious photo with reigning Country Music Association New Artist of the Year Megan Moroney.
The photo captures the two artists on stage on the final night of Chesney’s 2024 stadium tour. Chesney wore his signature cowboy hat with jeans and a tank top, and Moroney, who was part of the lineup on Chesney’s tour and will kick off her own headlining tour in March, copied Chesney’s look when she joined him on stage. Jimmy Fallon asked Chesney what was happening in that photo when the “I Go Back” hitmaker recently appeared on The Tonight Show.
“Megan was out on the road with us all summer. …That picture was the last night in Foxborough, Massachusetts. We always end our tour there,” Chesney said. “A member of my road family, Bailey, took her to my bus, and she put on my clothes in my bus and came out on stage dressed as me. So it just goes to show you, too, not only is Megan a great songwriter, she’s got a really good personality and isn’t scared of anything.”
Throughout the chat with Fallon, Chesney also shared stories about Taylor Swift, Jimmy Buffett and more. He also spoke about his upcoming 12-show run in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chesney will be the first country act to perform a residency at the venue when Kenny Chesney LIVE at Sphere Las Vegas kicks off in May. The general on-sale begins Friday (January 31) at 10 a.m. PT. “I’m always looking for ways to deepen the way No Shoes Nation experiences this music,” Chesney said in a statement of his decision perform a run of shows at the unique venue. “Over the years, they have shown me through their own response to these songs how passionate they are about what they mean, how these songs are part of their lives. When people give you that much heart, I want to give them even more.
“When we started talking about all of the possibilities playing Sphere offered, I was all in,” he continued. “Just the idea of 4D technology and the impossibly dialed in sound raises the experience for No Shoes Nation, literally immersing them in music, visuals, sound and being together. To me, this is going to be a whole new way of rocking the fans, and I can’t wait.”
